Environmental Conformity Assessments and Environmental CoC Audits Explained

Environmental · 2026-05-19 · 1 min read · CR Global Assurance Editorial Team

Brands' environmental codes of conduct set expectations on permits, wastewater, chemicals, waste and emissions. An environmental CoC audit checks whether a supplier meets them.

Most global brands publish an environmental code of conduct (CoC) or supplier environmental requirements. An environmental CoC audit verifies a supplier against that code, while an environmental conformity assessment measures performance against legal requirements and recognised good practice. CR Global Assurance conducts both.

Typical audit scope

  • Permits and licences — environmental clearance, factory licence, boiler, groundwater, fire and hazardous waste approvals.
  • Environmental management — policy, responsibilities, legal register and targets.
  • Wastewater — ETP operation and test results.
  • Air emissions — boilers, generators and process emissions, including refrigerants.
  • Chemicals — inventory, storage, MRSL compliance and training.
  • Waste — segregation, storage, authorised vendors and records.
  • Resource use — energy and water monitoring.
  • Community and emergency preparedness — spill response and grievance channels for neighbours.
